Upper Orange Street Cottage, Oranjezicht

Nestled in beautiful Oranjezicht – Cape Town, this cottage designed by Wynand Wilsenag Architects and was an absolute joy to work on. It has so many architectural details that your eyes just can’t stop finding detail, after detail, after detail. It’s almost a sensory overload at first glance as it’s so beautiful. Every last inch of the building just works, no square meter of the buildings design was left to chance.

Our task on this project was also one of the most challenging; the beautiful Spruce mezzanine floor which was an engineering feat.

Made up of 100mm X 200mm beams and 32mm flooring, it was constructed on the 1^st floor of the building in a confined space. Bearing in mind the beams arrived onsite at 12 meters in length.

The beams were mounted to the walls using galvenised T-brackets and to the ceiling beams using thread bar and galvenised plates. The brackets and plates painted charcoal black made the already beautiful structure just that much more beautiful.

Once erected the floor was a masterpiece, once lit up its absolutely breathtaking.

Upon completion of the floor, we built a Spruce staircase that that leads one up to the cottages one bedroom with views across Table Mountain and Devils Peak.
